Curry choices
Butter chicken, tikka masala or korma: which should you choose?
Butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and chicken korma can all appear in the same order, but they do not do the same job. The most useful comparison is the sauce, followed by the way the chicken is prepared. Here is how to choose among the versions on Samway Grill’s menu in Saskatoon.
Butter chicken: tomato and butter
Samway’s Butter Chicken is described as chicken simmered in a velvety tomato butter sauce. Choose it when you want the sauce to be a central part of the meal. Plain basmati rice gives that sauce a simple base, while naan lets you scoop up a smaller amount with each bite.
It is also an easy reference point when comparing other curries. If your usual order is Butter Chicken, think about what you want to change: the tomato character, the richness, or the preparation of the chicken. That makes your next choice more deliberate than simply picking another familiar name.
Chicken tikka masala: roasted chicken in masala sauce
Chicken Tikka Masala on the Samway menu combines roasted chicken with masala sauce. It gives you a different starting point from chicken simmered in a butter sauce. Do not confuse it with Juicy Chicken Tikka, the clay-oven appetizer: similar words can refer to different dishes and different amounts of sauce.
If roasted chicken is the part that interests you most, compare the clay-oven menu with the chicken curry menu. The former helps you find the tikka appetizer; the latter puts the sauced main-course options together.
Chicken korma: a creamy cashew direction
Samway’s Chicken Korma is marinated chicken cooked in creamy cashew-nut sauce. That ingredient gives the dish a clear distinction from the tomato-butter option. Choose korma because you enjoy that sauce style, not because you assume every version is automatically mild.
Spice preferences and ingredient requirements are separate questions. Check the options when you order online, and contact the restaurant if you need clarification about a recipe. In particular, the menu explicitly names cashew in Chicken Korma.
