Gulab jamun, ras malai or kulfi: choosing a sweet finish

By Samway Grill · · 3 min read

Samway Grill’s dessert menu offers three different kinds of finish: syrup-soaked gulab jamun, ras malai and frozen pista kulfi. You can also choose a mango lassi or masala chai from the drinks menu. Instead of adding a dessert automatically, decide whether you want a shared sweet, something cold, or a drink alongside the meal.

Gulab jamun: a syrup-soaked sweet

The Samway menu describes Gulab Jamun as dumplings made with milk solids, deep-fried and soaked in sugar syrup. The listed portion is two pieces. It is a useful option when you want a small, defined sweet course after the mains rather than another large dish on the table.

If you are sharing, check the listed piece count against your group rather than assuming one dessert will divide the way a curry does. Current quantities and prices appear in the desserts and drinks menu and live ordering system.

Ras malai: a different texture

Samway’s Ras Malai listing describes sweet cheese balls with cardamom flavour and pistachio. It is a distinct choice from fried dumplings in syrup. If you enjoy trying two desserts, comparing ras malai with gulab jamun gives you more contrast than simply adding another portion of the same sweet.

The menu names milk-based ingredients and pistachio in these dessert descriptions. Read the details and ask the restaurant about ingredient requirements before ordering. A dessert’s small size does not make its ingredients less relevant to the meal.

Pista kulfi: choose a frozen finish

Pista Kulfi is listed as Indian ice cream with cardamom, pistachios and almonds. Choose it when the cold dessert is what you are looking forward to. It fills a different role from syrup-soaked gulab jamun or ras malai, so temperature and texture can guide the decision as much as flavour.

If you are ordering for pickup or delivery, consider when you intend to enjoy the dessert and ask the restaurant any practical collection questions. Availability is best checked in the live ordering menu, alongside the rest of your order.

Mango lassi or masala chai?

Mango Lassi, Sweet Lassi and Salted Lassi are separate drink choices at Samway. Choose the flavour that sounds right for your meal rather than treating lassi as one interchangeable drink. Masala Chai Tea provides another way to finish the table if you would rather have tea than a dessert.

For a dinner for two, you might share one dessert, choose different sweets, or skip them and order drinks. Our dinner-for-two guide helps you plan the mains first. If you would like to enjoy the meal at the restaurant, the visit page has Samway’s Saskatoon location and contact details.
