Tandoori and tikka: a guide to Samway’s clay-oven choices

By Samway Grill · · 3 min read

If you enjoy roasted dishes, start with the clay-oven choices at Samway Grill. The menu includes chicken tikka, paneer tikka and other tandoori preparations alongside the curries. The important distinction is not just chicken versus paneer: it is whether you want a roasted appetizer or a dish served in sauce.

Chicken tikka is not the same order as tikka masala

Juicy Chicken Tikka is listed as a boneless chicken appetizer roasted in the clay oven. Chicken Tikka Masala appears among the chicken mains and combines roasted chicken with masala sauce. Both may appeal to someone who enjoys roasted chicken, but they give the rest of the meal different jobs.

With the appetizer, you might add a curry, dal or another shared dish. With tikka masala, bread or rice can accompany the sauce. Our butter chicken, tikka masala and korma comparison helps if you are deciding between sauced chicken mains.

Paneer tikka brings a vegetarian option to the oven

Samway’s Tandoori Paneer Tikka is cottage cheese marinated with tandoori spices, roasted in the clay oven and served with mint chutney. It gives a vegetarian sharing table another texture alongside lentils and vegetable curries. The menu’s current listing specifies the quantity.

Paneer Tikka Masala, in contrast, is a main-course dish with masala gravy and bell peppers. The word masala in the name is a useful cue to read the full description before ordering. For more ways to combine paneer with other ingredients, see our vegetarian meal guide.

Compare the complete clay-oven descriptions

The menu also lists Chicken Seekh Kebab, described as ground chicken marinated with herbs and cooked in the tandoor oven. Its texture differs from pieces of boneless chicken tikka. Choosing between them is partly about how you want the chicken prepared, not simply which seasoning sounds familiar.

Use the clay-oven menu as a guide, then check the live listing for current quantities, options and availability. Menu terms such as appetizer or sizzler are useful descriptions, but they do not tell you whether a dish alone will match your appetite.

Build around the roasted dish

If the roasted dish is the focus, choose sides that add something different. Dal or Chana Masala adds a spoonable component; naan gives you bread to share. You can also pair a clay-oven appetizer with biryani, but consider the overall order before adding a separate rice side.

For dine-in, find the restaurant on 8th Street East in Saskatoon. For pickup or delivery, start with Samway’s ordering page. Ask the restaurant about ingredients or adjustments that matter to you rather than assuming every tandoori marinade is the same.
